Your Quick Guide To Toxic Metals – Part 2

This ChecKin Health Blog Series is about Toxic Metals, the least known of the toxins affecting our lives. Part II

Picking up where we left off – which are the metals we want to remove or at least reduce? I am covering the three A’s today, before I get to the more widely known Mercury. Aluminium is one of the most common ones, and right in line with Mercury for the havoc it causes in our bodies. We need to pay close attention to where it is found and therefore affecting our health on a daily basis.

Aluminium – the most widely distributed metal on the planet

It is found in saucepans, frying pans, baking sheets, foil, deodorantEspecially deodorant. Go home, look at the small print, if aluminium is the second or first ingredient on the list, you want to change brand. Putting a toxic metal right onto your sensitive glands and so close to breast tissue is not what you want. Do change to aluminium free deodorants, mineral sticks or other alternatives. You will thank us in the long run. Personally I have tried the mineral salt sticks and Pit Putty and I love them both. Also aluminium foil. Think again when you are baking your food in the oven. The foil releases its toxins right into the food when heated, so find alternatives like casserole dishes with a lid, baking paper or scrubbing the tray with a little elbow grease. I know I sound like a mammy, but it really is that bad.

Aluminium accumulates in your kidney, liver, lungs and thyroid where it competes with calcium for absorption. It also targets the Central Nervous System and can lead to degenerative brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Aluminium can also be absorbed into bones leading to softening of the bones. We find toxic metals in about 80% of our clients, and the list of ill health is long. Some symptoms don’t seem to be connected, but once we start chelating the metals from  your cells, clients usually feel significantly better within a few weeks.

Aluminium is further found in processed and frozen food packaging, milk and fruit juice cartons, so reduce or remove where you can. Glass as ‘packaging’ is my favourite, as plastic bottles bring their own problems too, but even tackling the problem partially, will go towards your health and reducing your toxic load.

What you probably never suspected – if you are taking antacids, aspirin, anti inflammatory and anti diarrhoea medication, chances are high that you are taking a certain amount of aluminium with it.  The same as after a vaccination – you need to chelate and  flush out that aluminium.

Aluminium is also found in baking powder, food additives, flour, table salt, oxo cubes, reduce, reduce, reduce… Also in soft drink- and beer cans, and inside tomato paste tubes. So again, the odd glass bottle packaging goes a long way, wherever possible.

Aluminium salt can be found in tap water where it acts as a deflocculant and softener. Lucky are the ones with a pure well behind their house. Otherwise you may want get your water tested and possibly filtered.

We naturally find higher aluminium levels in spearmint and peppermint teas, tea bags, instant coffee, spinach and potatoes, so if you know you have an aluminium problem do reduce those too. We have seen clients who drink 12 cups of mint tea a day only to realise it is not all good. Moderation is key.

Arsenic

Chronic exposure to arsenic causes a variety of symptoms and health conditions. Foods grown in contaminated soil and water are the main sources of intake for most people. Also, people working in glass-making and pesticide manufacturing may be exposed to significantly higher levels of arsenic than the general population. Arsenic is mostly found in chicken and rice.  Pesticides for rice contain arsenic and it is also found in the parasitic treatment for chickens. Some athletes are living on chicken and rice seven days a week and we are finding raised levels of arsenic in their bodies. This can lead to symptoms of headaches, drowsiness, diarrhoea, confusion, vomiting, heart disease and respiratory problems. Replace that chicken and rice dinner with a different protein and carb source at least three days a week.

Antimony

is found in foundation & makeup, so again, read those small labels. There are less toxic products available, mineral makeup is a good start. Fake tan is full of antimony, if you have to use it every now and then do get ample doses of Vitamin C for the week after to help the body expel the metal from your cells.

Antimony is also used as a flame retardant – toys, car seat covers, kids’ clothing, just be aware.

Antimony can leak from plastic water bottles and affect the respiratory and cardiovascular system. Time to switch to glass bottles if possible. A Kinesiologist in your area can test if the water bottle of your choice is affecting your health.  This would be a good thing to know in the long run, and make an informed choice.

Antimony poisoning resembles arsenic poisoning. It affects the gastrointestinal tract and digestion, it can cause abdominal pain, diarrhoea, vomiting, and ulcers. An increased incidence of spontaneous abortions and disturbances in menstruation were reported in women working at an antimony metallurgical plant as compared to a control group. If you are trying for a baby, see a Bio Kinesiologist and chelate your toxic load. When we are pregnant, nature has a way of protecting the mum’s life first, and a lot of her toxic load is being ‘dumped’ onto the baby during her pregnancy. If you chelate your own toxic load first you can prevent the majority of your toxic metal load from passing through the placenta.

This is no easy or fun read. But I was at a workshop last week and talked about toxic metals to four women that day, and neither of them knew that there is such a thing in the first place. All of them have numerous health issues and are on a handful of long term medication each. We need to change the way we think about toxins and what goes into our bodies.

“By cleansing your body on a regular basis and eliminating toxins from your environment, your body can begin to heal itself, prevent disease, and become more strong and resilient than you ever thought possible!”
– Dr. Edward Group, Founder of Global Healing Center –

Watch out for the following parts of the blog over the next two weeks, where I will go into more details on the remaining toxic metals.
